Tungsten-molybdenum waste alloy with cobalt is employed for the production of heavy-duty cutting tools, cold-work punches and industrial shear blades. This solid waste has a stable chemistry, which makes it suited for high wear plastic molds, thread rolling dies, ceramic pressing tools and deep drawing equipment. The newly forged tools can preserve sharp cutting edges in the presence of frictional heat. 9–10% cobalt boosts the red-hardness limit of the recycled melt.

Generally, high speed steels are used for machining at high speeds. HSS T42 steel materials are widely used for:
It refers to clean, solid recycling remnants of tungsten-cobalt high-speed tool steel (DIN 1.3247 / AISI T42), typically collected from obsolete industrial cutters, bar ends, or manufacturing rejects.
T42 scrap is characterized by high cobalt and tungsten contents, which yield exceptional hot-hardness, outstanding wear resistance, and high compressive strength during subsequent metallurgy processing.
It is heavily utilized by alloy steel mills, foundries, and specialized cutting tool manufacturers to sustainably produce new industrial drill bits, broaches, cold-forming dies, and high-stress mechanical components.
T42 is a tungsten-base class of high speed steels with a greater tungsten and vanadium concentration. M42 is a molybdenum-based alloy. Both have substantial cobalt contents to give red toughness.
Yes. It is 100% recyclable by electric arc furnace (EAF) or vacuum induction melting techniques and is a highly useful raw material to reduce virgin ore consumption.
It is mainly supplied as solid scrap, which comprises solid tool bodies, blanking dies, broken drill bits, end mills and clean plate cut-offs devoid of oil or muck.
The market value is determined by the purity of the lot, the total cobalt/tungsten content, the absence of attachment metals (brazed shanks, etc.), and the current nickel and cobalt commodities indexes worldwide.
This provides a low-cost alternative to pricey virgin cobalt and tungsten alloying elements, enabling specialty steel makers to reduce manufacturing costs while maintaining superior tool performance.
